I've always hated mauve ~ And how to say it!

You all know that I've never been a fan of anything close to Taupe!
If it reads pink, I steer clear.
So Mauve has never been my favorite color, even when it was all the rage back in the 90's.
I remember a coworker when I was in "oil & gas", who loved decorating;
pronouncing it as above.  Come to think of it, she was of French descent.
I thought she was so wrong, I'd just giggle when she said it!
Cause in my Texas bred mind, it was obviously maw~ve!
Just goes to show you, I'm willing to admit when I am... even some 20 odd years later!
This was all shortly before I was blessed to marry St. Philip and take up "styling and decorating" as my pastime/passion work!

I am now a mauve, but I'll say lilac (because its easier to pronounce in Texan) convert!
Just looking at all of these beautiful pictures I've recently collected makes me love it so much more this time around!
It has taken on a whole new feminine, sumptuous beauty I never appreciated before...

One of my favorite jobs from this past year was an OBGYN office in The Woodlands.
And you guessed it, Taupe/Mauve/Lilac infused!
It did take some convincing...

It was actually a job I tried to remove myself from, you know, the trying to retire thing and all!
But after a long 9 month, hands on, redoing, repurposing, rethinking process,
which gave me some much needed time with my sister
not to mention her wonderful office crew, it was a blessing job!

Again, I find God's purpose in most everything I first resist!
May your direction be clear this debut Monday
and your resistance fade in regard to your calling!

Enjoying the winter, but looking forward to the graceful lilacs of spring, B

2018 focus scripture...
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
I will give them a heart to know that I am the Lord, and they shall be my people and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart.

Shoes of Purpose...

As January rushes in, I’ve been reflecting on the past year, my new age and how I’ll spend 2018.  These quotes have been in my blog inspiration journal for a while and I found each worth contemplating a bit more and sharing with you, my friends!

"You can take no credit for beauty at sixteen...but if you are beautiful at sixty, that is your souls own doing" - Marie Stopes

I so pray my soul has grown to be beautiful as time has passed, remembering the many beautiful women that shaped me throughout my 60 years.
First of course my mom, Elizabeth Prince~ strong, determined & loving…
Mrs. Lela Meader ~ kind, witty and straightforward…
Mrs. Erma Mowry ~ soft spoken, sincere and gracefull...
Mrs. Doris Grant ~ wise, forgiving and always resilient...
Mrs. Bennie Cornelsen ~ classic, creative and supportive…
Mrs. Jess Overby, Godly, full of light and laughter...
and Mrs. Irene Glowacki who taught me the most beautiful thing you can wear
is a smile, hers is still glorious!

"What we spend the majority of our waking lives doing should be something we find really valuable and rewarding." – Adam Grant

I’ve spent 36 years raising boys and almost as many years trying to make things more beautiful…I’m not sure I would consider myself a total success at either, but by the grace of God, I have 3 awesome young men that call me Mom and many wonderful clients now friends that have trusted me with the place they call home!  Raising my guys, an invaluable gift and privilege…Decorating homes, a rewarding passion and also a privilege!

“Maybe the holes we feel in our lives aren’t all supposed to be filled. Let them sit there awhile and ache. Let them sit there awhile and speak. Maybe they’ve got something to say.” – Beth Moore

When I read this thought by Beth Moore, I realized that there is an ache in my heart to do something else with the time remaining…to hear God’s calling more than ever in my 60 years.  I know my life has been full and I have tried to live it with purpose!  But what is God’s purpose for me?  That is a question that keeps speaking.  And I feel a constant tugging to do something more meaningful for others, something to make a difference!!

"The preaching that this world needs most is the sermons in shoes that are walking with Jesus Christ." – D.L. Moody

In this new year, my goals are a bit different.  As I’ve told many, I love styling and decorating, but I've been trying to retire for a couple of years now!  Then I smile and say, of course I will never say no to my old and dear clients, or for that matter my friends.  It is just part of this creative soul!  But I’m really hoping to work with people in need that would love to, but for some reason, can’t afford to pay for design assistance.

So I’m asking my readers and friends, if you know of someone deserving or someone who was affected by the recent Houston floods that might need design or decorating help of any kind, please contact me.  I want to give my time to them as thanks for the many blessings I have received through these 60 years from others…my family, my husband, my boys, my mentors, my friends, my clients and most importantly, my Father God!
Lord knows, I have the shoes…just hoping to wear them with more purpose in 2018,   Most sincerely and in God’s gracious care, B
